Public Artwork Commissions

The Cultural Arts Commission sponsors a collection of annual artwork gallery exhibits designed to showcase the creativity of native and Bay Area artists. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the initially scheduled 2020 packages are cancelled or postponed. As the Commission explores avenues for art programming that allows for protected health practices, video displays highlighting SSF Public Art installations might be featured on the Parks and Recreation Department’s YouTube channel.

MAMBO’s everlasting collection is impressive, and features over four,300 artworks relationship from the end of the nineteenth century to today by vital Colombian and worldwide artists. The first SSF Cultural Arts Commission virtual art exhibit, celebrated the cultural traditions of Dia de Muertos/Day of the Dead. The on-line exhibit featured thirty-nine works created by local and Bay Area artists and impressed by this joyful annual occasion. Entries had been judged by San Mateo County Fair Day of the Dead coordinator and local skilled, Evangelina Portillo.
